What is Sustainability?

As the worlds population grows, we will need to find new and innovative ways to have enough resources to meet the global demand. We at LP Foods make sure that the products we provide to the market come from sustainable fisheries or farms that practice high standards that keep the environment safe. We regularly audit our sources to make sure that they follow proper procedures, and give peace of mind to our clients.

Our Manifesto

LP Foods is a Company committed to assure long term seafood supply to our customers and clients.

For our farm raised seafood we seek for third part certified products. Globally recognized protocols and labels like andare our best choice. Products that still don’t achieve this high standard are encouraged to start AIP () addressing both environmental and social aspects of their production.

For the wild caught, the same idea is applied and the Marine Stewardship Council v 2.0 standard is the one we mostly seek not only for the fisheries but for all Custody Chain (from boat to the plate). As the label achievement sometimes is a long-term path, LP Foods support (FIPs) to track the fisheries towards the certification.

Our final wish is that both farms and fisheries are sustainable and certified, addressing all economic, social and environmental aspects to assure a long term endless supply. Beyond sustainability, , and also takes part in our core business and decision making.

We partner with plants, fisherman, farmers, NGO’s, Government and other companies to give support (with fund, personal, technology and time) for strategic Projects and Initiatives that promotes better sustainability and traceability practices;
We do “in loco” audits and implement ours and customers’ brand own standards;
We push our plants to adopt 3rd part Food Safety protocols (BRC, FSSC, ISO);
We regularly follow up audits and Corrective Action Reports (CARs);
We make sure no products come from unknown origin, over fishing or illegally fishing;
We help our suppliers to adopt social audit and protocols (SMETA, SA 8000 and BSCI);
Our social policy does not accept non-compliances like: Child labor, Forced Labor and Slavery;
Our Food Defense policy is aware to avoid any harm to our suppliers, workforce and final consumers.

Food Safety and Manifesto

We have an interest in sustainable fisheries so that the oceans can continue to offer their best. We enforce our responsible sourcing policies on our sources. Our suppliers must comply to our social and environmental policies. We participate in environmental certifications to encourage sustainability with our suppliers. We have a transparent traceability system so that we can stop Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing from entering our supply chain.

ISO 9001

We use ISO 9001 as our quality management system to benchmark and demonstrate our ability to provide products and services that meet our customers and all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. This is part of our commitment to quality assurance.

Global Food Safety Initiative

The Global Food Safety Initiative is an organisation that focuses on collaboration between key actors of the food supply chain to increase continuous improvement in food safety management systems. The goal is to ensure consumer confidence in the global food system.

We work closely with our suppliers to ensure our product meets global food safety standards in GFSI. All our suppliers are certified and in compliance with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

BRC Global Standards

The standards were first developed in the UK and now recognized as one of the most rigorous certification scheme of its type in the industry.

It is also the first standard to be recognized under the GFSI benchmark.

We work with our suppliers to help them to achieve the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 7.

GlobalG.A.P.

GLOBALG.A.P. is farm assurance program dedicated to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

The scheme assures LP Foods and our clients that the producers have sustainable operations that respect the health, safety and welfare of workers, environment and animal welfare issues.

Aquaculture Stewardship Council

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council standards are species specific and are developed through a series of roundtable discussions hosted by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) involving many stakeholder groups including social and environmental NGOs, retailers, seafood processors and producers.

Any of our products that are ASC certified can be traced back to the source and we have a transparent traceability system in place to do so.

Marine Stewardship Council

Marine Stewardship Council is a non-profit organisation that maintains a standard for sustainable fishing. The standards are species specific and are periodically reviewed to ensure that new scientific knowledge and management best practices would be included in the standards.

The MSC Chain of Custody certification not only ensures that our products can be traced back to a fishery that meets the MSC Fisheries Standard but also the traceability of the entire supply chain back to a certified source.

Best Aquaculture Practice

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is an international non-governmental organisation advocating responsible aquaculture.

The Best Aquaculture Practices certification standard has developed from this advocacy. It addresses elements of responsible aquaculture and encompasses the entire aquaculture production and supply chain.

A star system signifies the integration levels of BAP certification along the whole production and supply chain.

We want our suppliers to achieve at least BAP 3 stars and ideally to get BAP 4 stars.
